Mr. Willard "Will" Ellsworth Shawgo Jr. passed away with his family by his side at Heritage Valley Hospital on January 18, 2021 in Beaver, PA at the age of 72.
Will was born on May 16, 1948 in Grove City, PA to Willard and Dorothy Shawgo. He graduated from Grove City College in 1970 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Will married Patti, his high school sweetheart, in 1967. Will and Patti's 2 children, Jeff and Jenny, were raised in Grove City, Gary IN, and Beaver Falls, PA. Will worked for Inland Steel, J&L Steel, and Superior Drawn Steel as a Metallurgical Engineer. In 1958, Will, his brother John, and their dad, began the legacy of the Shawgo Tree Farm, which is still in operation in Grove City, PA.
Will was a wonderful husband to Patti of 53 years, and enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV. He was a loving father and grandfather, and a great friend and neighbor. Will was a coach, a golfer, a woodworker, a hunter, a fisherman, and he loved his golden retrievers. He took pride in his garden and in sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. His woodshop was always open and he was a friend to the end.
Will is survived by his wife Patricia Mann Shawgo of Beaver Falls, PA; children Jeffrey (Nancy) Shawgo of Pittsburgh, and Jennifer Shawgo (Priestly) Williams of Virginia; brother John G. (Joan) Shawgo of Grove City; grandchildren, Emily Shawgo (Rick Fincham) of Pittsburgh, and Miles Williams of Virginia; sister-in-law Nancy Runkle of Massachusetts, and brother-in-law Robert (Linda) Mann of Florida; nephews Douglas (Yvonne), Gary (Nancy), and Michael (Bernadette) Shawgo, and niece Christina Mann; and a great nephew and great nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents Willard Ellsworth Shawgo and Dorothy Gahagan Shawgo of Grove City, PA, and his grandson Will Williams of Virginia.
A private service for only the family is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 11am, at CUP Evangelical Presbyterian Church,. Friends are welcome to watch the live streamed service at http://www.cupepc.org/cup-church/category/cup-online-services/. Pastor Scott Graham will officiate the service. In accordance with CDC guidance, masks are required. Friends and family will gather together at a later date to raise a glass to Will. Condolences can be sent to cunninghamfhgc.com
